New Volume of Color
Essentials Sheds Light on Color Reproduction Process
Pittsburgh, PA,
March 13, 2009 -- Printing Industries Press is pleased to
announce the release of Volume 3 of the Color Essentials:
Color and Quality for the Graphic Arts and Sciences series
by Gary G. Field. The essays in this series prompt readers
to break away from routine thinking when it comes to
stubborn production problems that have plagued color
reproduction for decades, and to see problems - and
solutions - from entirely new perspectives.
Evolution
in technology and the development of increasingly efficient
color reproduction procedures have made it as important as
ever to make effective color approval decisions. As
companies in the graphic arts industry inevitably find,
numerous day-to-day issues arise within this process, often
making accurate color reproduction quite difficult. Fresh
insights into these common problems are provided by Field in
Color Essentials, Volume 3.
Much like the previous two volumes, this resource offers a
collection of fifteen concise essays on topics of color
reproduction. The information presented in these articles is
suited for anyone involved in the color approval process;
including sales reps, art and creative directors, print
buyers, and press and prepress production specialists.
The new perspectives offered in this volume provide specific
insights into the dynamics of customer approval. In his
informal yet scientific writing style, Field provides clear
guidelines on how to achieve preferred color and offers a
unique, practical perspective on many of the issues
surrounding the process. Some of the articles in this
fifteen-chapter volume cover such topics as:
-
Color
correction concepts
-
Color quality
decision processes
-
The art of
preferred color
-
The color
correction craft
-
Learning
color quality judgment
-
Practical
color specification
-
Color quality
limits: are we there yet?
"Color quality,
has always been a somewhat elusive concept, but it is more
of a science and less of an art than most people recognize.
Although color quality judgment and analysis skills can be
acquired through years of experience, it is so much more
efficient if the principles discussed in the books of this
series are learned early in one's career," explains Field. A
leading graphic arts color reproduction authority, Field is
an accredited senior imaging scientist and emeritus
professor at California Polytechnic State University.
Some of the essays in Color Essentials were previously
released to members of the Technical Association of the
Graphic Arts; however, most have never been previously
published.
